This portfolio is built mainly by myself.

Obviously, this website should be a part of my portfolio.
I designed, built and tested it mainly on my own, using a template as the reference while being slightly helped by my friend.

Template is from github project agency-theme, built on jekyll(ruby), html, css, and JavaScript, I made some personalized and customized modifications to it.

My portfolio costs approximately no money but a large amount of time and energy. Through the process, I have learnt:

Stata Application and Development

Confident in mastering Stata skills.

Data Cleanning

Having a rich experience in data collection and cleanning, I am very familiar with the mainstream large-scale economic survey such as CHIP, CFPS, CHES, CHARLS, …, etc.

I have been appointed to be in charge of data cleanning, which includes from sample selecting to calculation pre-processing, in several programs hosted by my supervisors.
Through all these experiences, I have developed immense patience and a sharp attention when dealing with numbers.

Able to provide an elaborate summary or descriptive statistics if needed, which sometimes I use R or Python to assist.

Data Analysis

Trained to have a basic understanding towards Econometric Methodology and to operate several traditional stratagies of causal idetification, no matter which kind of data is the study conducted on, cross-sectional, time-serie or panel data (I prefer panel however). Such as: fixed-effects model, non-linear regression, instrumental variable, Logit/Probit, PSM, DiD, RDD, RCT, ..., etc.

Command Programming

I have developed several commands based on my own interests or in other words, entertainment. Some of them originated from my workflows and other stemmed from pure interests.
Creating a customized automatic progress helps encapsulate my empirical work and improve efficiency.

DRAWREGS: Visualize the Regression Coefficients

drawregs is developed because I was totally tired of giant tables and forms requested by the same regressions which contains different dummies by order. To be more specific, it is used to create graphs for the regressions containing dummies with continuous economic features.


The “continuous economic feature” mentioned above encompasses two dimensions: Space and Time. Imagine a scenario: we aim to create several dummy variables representing temporal / spatial nodes (which form the complete temporal / spatial investigation scope when connected) to assess the impact of a single time / space point on our dependent variable. For instance, does t5 have a greater influence on Y compared to t1 and t2? Is the causal effect most significant at nkm2 ?

When encountered this difficulty in the empirical section of my graduation thesis, I wrote a few simple lines of code to visualize the estimation of coefficients and found the results to be satisfactory. I hoped to “encapsulate” this “function” for the potential use of others or for future needs if exist.

TOPFOOTBALLERS: Web Scraping & Text Analysis

Topfootballers is a Stata command created independently by the author.
It is designed to instantly crawl real-time data of top football players and display the information based on user-defined parameters for conditional filtering.

Data Visualization

Display the data clearly and enlighteningly by careful visual design.

At the very first, I regarded my behavior of pursuing almost every details of my Powerpoint slides to be perfect is a show of Obsessive-compulsive disorder, but gradually did I realize that I do enjoy the process of design and polish the presence of my work related to data, reports or papers. Honestly, it is so just because I want to escape from the actual content for a moment — I see the visual improvement as a way to relax my mind during the heavy workloads.

So I devote much to data visualization, learning through operating. I can use Tableau smoothly and several similiar BI tools now. While I drew lots of graphs mainly using Stata, I have already realized that R(gglopt2) and Python(pandas, numpy,…）can do much better or satisfy much more demands. So I keep learning, of course, through operating.

As a beginner, there is not much evidence to prove my experience with data visualization. Therefore, I have listed no more than three of my works that I can still recall.

Data Cockpit / Dashboard

I was appointed to design and realize a dashboard which displays the Development of Common Prosperity in Yangtze River Delta recently. Using the data offered by my supervisors, I selected some indicators, made some calculations and designed the layouts and motions of the dashboard. Here I insert a video which was made using a mainstream BI tool in China, FineVis, to show what does it look like.

Besides, to import a clean and concise style into my dashboard, I made another one based on the same data source but using Tableau.

I also applicated a similiar layout when prepared for the proposal defense of my graduation thesis. These 2 are hardly different.

Economic Statistics

I have read somewhere (cannot remember) that graphs speak louder than tables when your model is too giant to show for your readers/audience’s first sight. So I generated some images for some of my analysis result, as a reg monkey who prefers colorful blocks than just black&white lines.

I have included some of them here. It should be noted that they are neither my best nor most recent work; they are simply what I could find in my disorganized folders at the moment.
And I must mentioned that the data has been anonymized and is for demonstration purposes only, without any economic meaning.

Enjoy oneself in meditation on aesthetics and creativity.

I love to carry my thoughts thourgh a creation organizing visual and audio expressions, but video editing costs too much time and energy so I cannot do it very often.
Additionally, as my preferences, hobbies, and interests change a lot over time, my past work does not necessarily reflect the topics I am currently passionate about. For instance, football has totured me since the half of season 24/25, I am just annoyed by the recent performance of my favourite players.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro (now has already been proved to be rubbish) to edit my clips.

Which may be Called as Scientific Research?

I am already exhausted when writing this part. So just a brief list of titles and abstracts included here. These essays can only be considered undergraduate-level academically, please do forgive me if you regard them as trash.

Respond to the Public Health Emergencies: The lessons from the two outbreaks of COVID-19 in China (2023)

Using the big data daily indexes from China’s mainstream social media platforms in 2022, this study proposes a general response model of public health emergencies on the core of reducing resident well-being loss. The multi-dimensional impacts of COVID-19 is studied, along with the relevant responses from Chinese government on residents’ subjective well-being, which are measured by public sentiment reaction. The analysis reveals that the public health emergencies will reduce the resident well-being by two dimensions, health and economy. Government responses of public medical resource supply and non-medical prevention policies have positive effect on improving resident well-being and reducing the impact of epidemic. As governments face challenges in containing public health emergencies, this study highlights the need to focus on the well-being of residents, understand the impact route of emergencies on well-being, and choose an adequate and equitable policy package with the goal of not leaving out vulnerable targets.

How Does Internet Usage Affect Loneliness Among Middle-Aged and Elderly Groups? (2023)

Currently, China’s population development is facing the structural challenge of severe aging. Loneliness among middle-aged and elderly individuals is widespread, posing a prominent social issue that tests the capacity and service level of public policies. This paper utilizes CHARLS data from 2011-2020 to construct a five-wave panel dataset and employs a two-way fixed effects model to identify the mitigating effect of internet usage on loneliness among middle-aged and elderly groups. To address potential endogeneity issues, the study employs: (1) the spherical distance to the nodes of the “8 Vertical and Eight Horizontal” optical cable network as an instrumental variable; (2) propensity score matching; and (3) expanded explanatory variables, for robustness checks. Mechanism analysis based on social support theory reveals that internet usage reduces loneliness by increasing contact frequency with friends and relatives, enhancing social interactions, and diversifying hobby activities. Heterogeneity analysis shows greater subjective benefits observed among non-working individuals, urban residents, middle-to-high-income groups, and those with higher education levels. Future public policies should focus on: improve internet coverage; enhancing digital literacy among middle-aged and elderly groups; promoting “digital reverse mentoring”; transforming “usage” into “utilization”; and narrowing the secondary “digital divide”.

Impacts and mechanisms between inequality, transfers and subjective well-being —— An empirical study based on the comparative perspective (2024)

Recent years have confirmed the importance of subjective well-being (SWB) in evaluating public policies. Based on a comparative perspective, we discuss the impacts and mechanisms between inequality and SWB, focusing on the role that government transfer can play. Our data source is the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). We find that inequality significantly reduces SWB by affecting public’s perception of the opportunity equity and their own economic and social status; the transfer payment helps mitigate the negative effects of inequality by increasing the public’s trust in their government and their positive expectations for future, which significantly increases SWB. Moreover, these effects are more pronounced among socially disadvantaged groups. Our findings are useful in providing perspectives and insights for the formulation and evaluation of redistributive policies.

The Income Effect of Industrial Parks on Rural Residents from the Perspective of Spatial Distance (2025)

Currently, the income growth of rural residents is still constrained by factors such as an underdeveloped labor market and the difficulty in obtaining property income. This study matches data from a large-scale household economic survey in Zhejiang Province with spatial location, using the presence of industrial parks as the key explanatory variable while the household income and employment status as the dependent variables. From a spatial and micro perspective, the study measures the positive impact of industrial agglomeration on rural residents’ material well-being. Industrial parks significantly increase rural residents’ per capita disposable income, wage, and property income by promoting non-agricultural employment and labor mobility. This effect diminishes with geographic distance, with a noticeable spatial threshold at approximately 5 kilometers, beyond which the impact weakens. Additionally, labor in the secondary or agricultural industry, and those who have received a high school education, tend to benefit from the parks more. It is argued that in response to the practical need for improving rural residents’ employment and income, narrowing the urban-rural gap, and advancing common prosperity, it is essential to accelerate the construction of industrial parks, optimize their geographical and industrial layout, and further develop the high-level modern industrial economy system. This will contribute to a high-quality economy and continuously enhance the quality of life and well-being of the people.

Since I don’t have so much accomplished works — even if I do, I am just not used to keeping a record — so I intentionally leave this blank grid here, waiting eagerly for more potential and the “yet to come”.
